Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry announces third annual Workplace Rights Week

The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) today announced the third annual Workplace Rights Week, taking place Sept. 13-19, 2026. Gov. Tim Walz has officially proclaimed the week to recognize the importance of protecting workers’ rights and supporting employer compliance with Minnesota labor laws.

"Workplace Rights Week is an opportunity for agency staff to speak directly with workers and employers across the state about their rights and responsibilities," said DLI Commissioner Kate Perushek. "By focusing on education and outreach, we strengthen employer understanding and compliance with workplace laws and help workers better exercise their rights."

Throughout the week, DLI will partner with community organizations, employers and other state agencies to host educational events focused on key workplace protections. State agency staff members, including Minnesota Paid Leave, and community partners will visit businesses in communities across the state from Moorhead to Montgomery.

Minnesota has made historic progress for workers. Gov. Tim Walz signed into law the largest set of workplace protections enacted in a generation, including earned sick and safe time, Paid Leave and banning non-compete agreements. These provisions have strengthened working families, expanded worker knowledge and given Minnesotans a greater voice on the job.

Educational webinars will extend throughout the month of September, giving workers and employers an easy way to get information directly from DLI and ask questions.
